The main aims of REACH are to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, the promotion of alternative test methods, the free circulation of substances on the internal market and enhancing competitiveness and innovation.

The REACH (Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemicals) Regulation EC 1907/2006 has been in force in European Union (EU) countries since June 1, 2007, while the general public has become increasingly aware of REACH there is sometimes confusion regarding exactly what REACH requires and who has obligations. As an exporter to EU countries the Plazit Polygal Group is committed to complying with REACH regulations; following are several important clarifications for customers and importers:

REACH is not in any way a standard or certification for products but rather a law requiring the registration of chemical substances (REACH defines “substance” as “a chemical element and its compounds in the natural state”). According to the definitions of the REACH regulation Plazit Polygal Group products are not classified as substances but rather as “articles” which do not require registration to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). In addition, none of the current restrictions or requirements for “notification” regarding articles apply to Plazit Polygal Group products: the products do not contain any of the substances included in the current ECHA candidate list of “Substances of Very High Concern”, they are not covered by any of the restrictions detailed in Annex XVII of the regulation, nor do they contain any substances intended for release in normal or foreseeable conditions.

As noted above the REACH legislation does not require registration of “articles” and the ECHA does not issue certificates or other official documents for “articles”. At this time importers of Plazit Polygal Group products should not be required by authorities to present any documents concerning REACH, however Plazit Polygal Group has issued an official REACH statement which can be presented if necessary (the statement can be downloaded using the link on this page).
